A New Residence on Henry’s Lake

Where Rural Western Vernacular meets – and draws upon – the Principles of Classical Architecture

On this steep and narrow site on the edge of a Blue Ribbon Trout Lake in eastern Idaho, we were challenged to design a site-responsive seasonal retreat that was both ecologically sensitive and architecturally appropriate for the region. The simple parti of the house – a one room deep bar with supporting appendages – was organized to respond to the client, site, and client: to take best advantage of the views to the lake and prevailing summer winds across the site and meanwhile accommodate the entertaining lifestyle of the Owners, one of whom has limited mobility.
